Before you hire a contractor take these steps to insure you hire the right contractor
Find out if your state requires contractors to be licensed.

Contact your building department or permitting agency an ask speciļ¬c questions about your project.

- Doe the contractor have to be licensed?
- What kind of contractor can do the work?
- Who can I call to verify the contractor's license?

Obtain a minimum of 3 estimates from qualified licensed contractors and be sure to verify their license.

Make sure the contractor’s license number matches the license number on all printed material the contractor gives you; proposals, estimates, contracts, etc.
Tip-- Not sure where to verify the contractor's license...contact you local permitting or contractor licensing department. Look for a State agency somewhere on the license to call.
